666 Third Avenue, 31st Floor
New York, NY 10017
Women’s economic empowerment is not only the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do. Keeping gender equality and women’s empowerment at the centre of our development efforts will be key to the success of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. There are significant multiplier effects – according to the ILO, a growing body of research shows that enhancing women’s economic participation improves national economies, increases household productivity and living standards, enhances the well-being of children with positive long term impacts and can increase women’s agency and overall empowerment. Yet persistent structural barriers continue to prevent women’s economic empowerment and full inclusion in economic activity.
These issues will be tackled at the forthcoming 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women. ‘Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work’ will also cover future trends as labour markets and work places undergo significant changes and need to become more equal and inclusive.
Please join us for the latest edition of the EU@UNTalks series which brings together distinguished experts for an interactive discussion with the audience about women’s economic empowerment – and what works.
