15 September 2016, New York/Brussels – Join Margrethe Vestager, EU Commissioner for Competition, Joseph E. Stiglitz, University Professor, Columbia University and Mario Monti, Senator and President of Bocconi University, on Wednesday, 21 September for the first Trans-Atlantic Citizens’ Dialogue on Tax Avoidance and Privacy in the Digital Age hosted by Columbia University.

9.21 CD NY SLIDE

The first transatlantic Citizens’ Dialogue will be a unique event. Columbia University in New York will host the EU Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager, who will discuss tax avoidance and privacy issues in the digital economy with the 2001 Nobel Laureate in Economics and University Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz and Senator Mario Monti, the former EU Commissioner for Competition and former Prime Minister of Italy. The event will be moderated by Merit E. Janow, Dean of Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. Participants in New York and Milan will be linked by a duplex video link and will engage in a debate on a range of themes focusing on economic policy in its broadest sense. In line with the European Commission’s political priorities, the very first transatlantic Citizens’ Dialogue will particularly focus on three of the ten priorities: Jobs, Growth and Investment, EU-US Free Trade (TTIP), and the EU as a Global Actor. Competition policy and privacy in the digital age, from both the US and EU perspective, will also be discussed. The dialogue is one of the signature events hosted by Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Both events (in New York and Milan) are open to the public, upon registration (available soon). Approximately 500 participants (students, representatives of EU Member States, and leading figures in academia, politics, international affairs and business) will have the opportunity to engage in the dialogue.

This event is now at capacity, but you may add your name to the waitlist: bit.ly/Citizens’Dialogue
